How I got into cycling Bromptons long distances

I’ve cycled from a young age, and have always enjoyed it as well as appreciated the practical benefits it brings. In my early years, this meant exploring the local streets. Not much has changed really, except that my exploration radius has got bigger. I still enjoy cycling around my neighbourhood, and once in a while, I’ll head further afield.

I bought my first Brompton in 2011, as a replacement for a Trek commuter bike which someone had stolen from my garage. I figured a bike could be kept safer inside my flat, and the folded Brompton would fit in a small space under the stairs. In addition to using the Brompton to get to work, I found it fun to ride. I joined a local Brompton club and met other like-minded individuals, and started going on social rides with them, as well as doing audaxes and sportives. I got to know the bike well and gained a lot of experience of cycling it on day trips and overnighters. Needless to say, this led to more adventures. Some highlights include:

Ultra Racing

In 2018, I decided to turn the dial up another notch by trying a first - to complete an Ultra Endurance Race on my Brompton. I found it to be a bit like speed-touring, I got to experience a lot in a short time. More amazing experiences led to more races, and you can read about some of these adventures by following the links below.
