Knitting project – Nick Drake tribute jumper

“You have to knit something for yourself!”, was the advice from Aneeta and friends at Knitting SOS , after the last few projects were garments knitted as gifts for others. So rather than make something that I might just as easily be able to buy in a shop, I decided to make this one-off Nick Drake tribute jumper. It’s based on a knitting pattern by Katrine Hannibal which I’ve modified to mimic the throw/blanket worn by Nick in a photoshoot by Julian Lloyd in ’67/8.
It’s taken me ages to finish, but my skills have definitely improved. I think I’ll take a short break from knitting to focus on other projects, but I’m already wondering what to knit next, so drop me a message if you have any ideas.
Music is an excerpt from Black Eyed Dog by Nick Drake (19 June 1948 – 25 November 1974).

  1. Hi there!
My name is Cayden, and I don’t know how to knit. But, I’ve always wanted this Nick Drake knitted jumper ever since I saw it!!! It’s fantastic and gorgeous. I would love to buy one from you if you could possibly make one for me. You can name a price, and I would totally buy one from you! I really hope you could do this for me. It would make me so happy!! I’m such a fan of Nick Drake, and having a replica of his striped sweater would be so rad! I can’t wait to hear back from you. Thank you!! -Cayden

    • Unfortunately I don’t have the time. If I ever get some space of my own I’d like to get a knitting machine, which would make this kind of thing a realistic option.

  2. Hi there!
Do you know about Ravelry.com ?
It’s an amazing website for fiber artists!
I’ll bet that if you could make a sweater pattern-ask a friend who knits to help you-you could sell it on Ravelry AND get a ton of volunteers someone to offer to knit you a custom one!
The fact that it’s full length-I had no idea!!!
Etsy is another option (eBay for crafty people).
    Such an epic photo!!!

    • Thanks Martha, yes I’ve been a member of Ralvelry since before the controversial redesign! Unfortunately I have so many little side projects I don’t really have time left over for producing patterns. If only I didn’t have to go to work I could squeeze in a few more of these fun things!
